The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) serves as a key member of Jordan Health’s executive leadership team and is responsible for providing strategic clinical leadership, medical oversight, and operational guidance in support of the organization’s mission, vision, and long-term sustainability. Reporting directly to the President & Chief Executive Officer, the CMO leads the medical component of Jordan Health with a focus on clinical excellence, population health, integrated care delivery, provider engagement, regulatory compliance, and improved health outcomes for the patients and communities served.
The CMO will play a critical role in advancing Jordan Health’s clinical strategy, strengthening care delivery models, improving provider performance and engagement, and ensuring that high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care is delivered across the organization. This executive will work closely with the CEO, executive leadership team, clinical leaders, nursing, quality improvement, finance, operations, and community partners to expand access, enhance clinical capacity, improve utilization, and support the sustainability of exceptional clinical services.
Jordan Health seeks a collaborative, mission-driven, and forward-thinking physician executive who understands the complexities of community health, public health, primary care, underserved populations, and integrated healthcare delivery. The successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience leading clinical teams, improving quality and patient outcomes, mentoring providers, implementing effective clinical policies and procedures, and using data to inform programming, performance improvement, and strategic decision-making.
The CMO will serve as a visible and trusted clinical leader who models excellence, integrity, accountability, and compassion. This leader will support provider recruitment, retention, development, and performance management while fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, clinical quality, and service excellence.
Clinical Strategy & Medical Leadership
- Provide strategic leadership for Jordan Health’s medical programs and clinical services.
- Partner with the CEO and executive leadership team to develop and implement clinical strategies that support Jordan Health’s mission, growth, and long-term sustainability.
- Lead efforts to integrate medical programs and services across the organization to support coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Participate in short- and long-term program planning, including the development of departmental goals, objectives, and work plans.
- Develop and present new clinical ideas, program recommendations, and policy initiatives to the executive leadership team.
- Contribute to organizational planning efforts and support the advancement of strategic priorities.
- Represent the clinical perspective in executive-level decision-making and organizational planning.
Clinical Capacity, Access & Utilization
- Establish and monitor clinical capacity, productivity, and utilization targets.
- Recruit, retain, mentor, and support exceptional clinical providers.
- Set clear performance expectations in collaboration with leadership and hold providers and clinical teams accountable for results.
- Ensure organizational systems and processes support Jordan Health’s strategic direction and clinical priorities.
- Work with operations and finance leadership to support the financial success and sustainability of clinical programs.
- Collaborate with the finance and operations teams to optimize purchasing, equipment, laboratory services, supplies, and other resources needed to support care delivery.
- Use technology, data, and operational tools to improve clinical efficiency, provider effectiveness, and patient access.
Quality, Patient Safety & Clinical Outcomes
- Provide oversight of Jordan Health’s clinical quality program, including peer review and clinical performance improvement.
- Ensure standards of care are met and evidence-based treatment is consistently provided.
- Engage in and direct clinical review activities to evaluate quality, safety, and program effectiveness.
- Implement processes to assess clinical program performance and recommend improvements.
- Partner with the Quality Improvement team to develop meaningful data, dashboards, and visualizations to support clinical programming, practice management, financial requests, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Work closely with nursing leadership and clinical staff to improve efficiencies, strengthen provider support, and optimize patient care.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and clinical excellence.
Provider Leadership, Development & Engagement
- Provide clinical mentoring, guidance, and support to providers in complex cases and treatment planning.
- Support the orientation, onboarding, continuing education, and on-the-job training of clinical staff.
- Perform periodic and annual evaluations of medical professional providers in accordance with Jordan Health policies.
- Supervise, advise, counsel, and discipline medical staff in collaboration with the CEO, Human Resources, and supervisory staff.
- Conduct effective clinical and provider meetings that support communication, accountability, and alignment.
- Champion workplace values, provider well-being, and a positive clinical culture.
- Serve as a highly visible, accessible, and credible leader for clinical staff.
Population Health, Data & Community-Based Programming
- Lead clinical programming based on data, patient needs, community health priorities, and emerging public health trends.
- Partner with the data analytics team to identify potential areas of focus and inform the CEO of clinical opportunities and community needs.
- Work with senior leadership to design, staff, and implement new and existing programs that respond to the needs of Jordan Health patients.
- Collaborate with the CEO and community partners to develop joint programs that improve the health of Jordan Health patients and the broader communities served.
- Consider and evaluate innovative programs and services that advance access, quality, outcomes, and population health.
- Support the expansion of healthcare programs that align with Jordan Health’s mission and improve community impact.
Compliance, Policy & Regulatory Oversight
- Design, develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies, protocols, and procedures in accordance with accepted professional standards.
- Annually review, update, and revise clinical policies and procedures as needed.
- Establish and implement appropriate QA/QI, HRSA, NYSDOH, and Joint Commission program guidelines.
- Follow and provide instruction regarding HRSA compliance guidelines and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Ensure clinical programs operate in compliance with Jordan Health’s Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, written policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Promote adherence to professional, regulatory, compliance, and ethical standards across all clinical programs.
Financial & Operational Partnership
- Assist in the preparation of departmental operating budgets in partnership with the CFO and executive leadership.
- Support compliance with departmental budgets and promote responsible resource utilization.
- Participate in grant application preparation and provide clinical input to support funding opportunities.
- Partner with finance, operations, quality, and clinical leaders to support financially sustainable care delivery.
- Use data and performance metrics to support program planning, funding requests, staffing decisions, and operational improvement.
Board, Executive & Organizational Leadership
- Prepare and submit monthly CMO reports for Board meetings.
- Attend and actively participate in senior leadership meetings.
- Provide clinical insight and recommendations to the CEO, Board, and executive leadership team.
- Communicate persuasively and effectively, both orally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders.
- Serve as an example of leadership excellence and inspire commitment among providers, staff, and organizational partners.
- Model Jordan Health’s mission, values, and commitment to improving the health of the communities served.
Required Qualifications
- Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine, or another specialty relevant to community-based primary care.
- Unrestricted license to practice medicine in New York State or ability to obtain licensure prior to employment.
- Current DEA registration.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive clinical leadership experience, including responsibility for provider leadership, clinical operations, quality improvement, and physician performance management.
- Demonstrated experience leading physicians, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
- Experience within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), community health center, safety-net healthcare organization, academic ambulatory care setting, or similarly complex healthcare environment.
- Strong knowledge of population health, healthcare quality, patient safety, clinical compliance, healthcare reimbursement, and value-based care models.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
- FQHC physician leadership experience preferred.
- Experience leading clinical programs serving diverse, underserved, Medicaid, or vulnerable patient populations.
- Demonstrated success improving clinical quality, provider performance, patient access, and care delivery outcomes.
- Experience with HRSA, NYSDOH, Joint Commission, QA/QI, peer review, and healthcare compliance requirements.
- Experience supporting grants, clinical program development, population health initiatives, and integrated care models.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of the principles and practice of modern medicine as they relate to public health organizations, community health programs, and primary care.
- Understanding of current social, economic, and public health challenges impacting patient populations and healthcare delivery.
- Awareness of the pressures facing public health and community-based healthcare organizations, including regulatory, financial, legislative, workforce, and community-related factors.
- Ability to work creatively and collaboratively with healthcare professionals across multiple disciplines.
- Strong supervisory, coaching, mentoring, and provider development skills.
- High degree of analytical capability and ability to use data to inform decision-making.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills.
- Ability to balance competing priorities in a complex, fast-paced clinical environment.
